Burstow Brokers Common Sense Parking Plan for Stonecot Hill10.01.46pm GMT Sun 7th Feb 2010 Local Liberal Democrat MP, Paul Burstow, held a meeting at Stonecot Hill on Wednesday (3rd Feb 2010) for Traders, councillors and Transport for London officials to work out a practical solution to the parking problems that were threatening business. The meeting had been called to follow-up on a meeting last November when TfL officials had been given a hard time by traders, residents and Mr Burstow. The traders wanted more parking spaces for customers and a new loading bay. Residents wanted a new crossing on London Road to make it safer getting to the local GP surgery.
Transport for London official, Andrew Miles, was able to give the meeting good news. In discussion with the traders additional parking bays will be set up and parking controls will allow people to park for up to an hour. A new loading bay will be installed outside a glazier in the Stonecot parade so that the business does not have to walk panes of glass across a busy road. TfL also confirmed that a new pedestrian refuge will be installed near the James O'Riordan Medical Centre in Stonecot Hill. Commenting, Paul Burstow MP said, "If TfL deliver on the promises they made at the meeting this is a good result for Stonecot Hill. More parking places for customers and a safe place to cross Stonecot Hill. It looks like common sense has broken out."
