MPs WORK TO KEEP ST HELIER REBUILD ON TRACK5.26.55pm GMT Tue 26th Jan 2010 A long running campaign to get the Government to 'Sign the St Helier Hospital Cheque' took another step forward today at a meeting at the Department of Health. The Borough's two MPs: Paul Burstow and Tom Brake met with local Health Minister Mike O'Brien and Mitcham and Morden MP Siobhain McDonagh to make sure work was on track to get Treasury approval for the plan. The MPs went through the remaining details and were assured by both local NHS officials and Department of Health officials that everything is on track. Tom Brake said, 'The PM, Health Secretary and Minister have all said this project would go ahead. 'Everything is on track on the planning front, the proposal is set to go to the Treasury in February, once they give the green light this vital project can get started.' Paul Burstow added after the meeting, 'Our borough needs a modern hospital fit for the 21st century. The last remaining obstacles in the way of Treasury approval are at last being cleared out of the way. It is going to be tight but the meeting demonstrated there is a determination to deliver this vital project.'
