MP for Worcester Park, Paul Burstow, has won the backing of the Council's Health and Wellbeing Scrutiny Committee for the local PCT to improve access to GP services in Worcester Park.

Mr Burstow had been invited to the Committee to discuss the findings of a survey he has been conducting in the Worcester Park area and evidence from his mailbag.

The survey is being undertaken jointly with residents on the Hamptons. Mr Burstow gave the committee some interim findings which show that six out of ten people are having to travel up to 3 miles to see a GP. The average travel distance in the borough is 0.52 miles.

The committee agreed to include in their report on GP provision in the borough their backing for more GP services in Worcester Park.

Commenting Paul Burstow MP said:

"For residents living in Worcester Park there is no choice of GP, it's hobson's choice. I am delighted that the Committee share my view and are backing my call for investment in GP services.

"It is time the PCT woke up to this problem and took action. A new GP surgery in the Worcester Park area, perhaps on Central Road would be good for local people and for the local economy too."
