MP Burstow visits Marsden to discuss development plans12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 24th Apr 2008 Sutton and Cheam MP, Paul Burstow, visited the Marsden Hospital last week to discuss plans for developing the site. Since plans for a Critical Care Hospital on the adjacent Sutton hospital site were abandoned Mr Burstow has been lobbying the NHS for new investment at the site in the form of a local care centre or polyclinic. Mr Burstow toured and met staff at the Marsden's state of the art Radiography department and the Children's unit. He also spent time with the Chief Executive, Cally Palmer, and Chief Nurse, Shelley Dolan, discussing plans for the in-patients department and for collaboration with local GPs to create a local Polyclinic. Commenting, Mr Burstow said: "You can't fail to be impressed by the Marsden. The new Radiography unit is remarkable; it is at the cutting edge of applied medical science. "I hope that the Marsden and the local NHS will be able to work through all the issues and secure the necessary investment to build a polyclinic. The south of Sutton and Cheam would benefit for having access to new primary healthcare and diagnostic facilities".
