Stern report makes the case for immediate action - Burstow

12.00.00pm GMT Thu 2nd Nov 2006

Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam, has welcomed the Stern report into climate change and its consequences, saying that it makes an incontrovertible case for immediate action to tackle the problem.

Commenting on the report, Paul Burstow MP said:

"The Stern report removes the last possible justification for doing nothing: the science is clear, and now so is the economics. Combating climate change is not a luxury it is a necessity."

"The Liberal Democrats have long been in the vanguard, calling for the tough choices to reduce carbon emissions. We are the only party to have spelt out in detail a green tax switch. Increasing taxes on pollution and the production of greenhouse gases, and handing the money back to hard working families in income tax cuts."

"It is good news that Tony Blair and David Cameron have finally woken up to the environmental and economic chaos that climate change will cause. But hugging huskies and photo opportunities are simply spin which do not hide the lack of substance."
