Political targets extend cancer waiting times12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 9th Feb 2005 Commenting on the publication of a Breast Cancer Care guide to radiotherapy waiting times, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Health, Paul Burstow MP, said: "These findings are shocking. Government targets for cancer diagnosis and certain cancer treatments mean that patients not covered by the targets wait longer. "Lack of specialist cancer staff is hampering efforts to improve waiting times for cancer. "The shortages of staff and equipment causing these long waits must be addressed."
