Obesity Clinic Closures Show Government Complacency

12.17.21pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 14th Jun 2004

The closure of several top obesity centres show that the Government is not serious about tackling obesity, the Liberal Democrats said today.

Paul Burstow MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, said:

"These closures show that the Government is not serious about tackling obesity. The complacency of health ministers wholly undermines their approach to the obesity crisis.

"Whilst the key is to deal with the causes of obesity there is still a need to invest in services that provide treatment and support."
