Foundation hospitals a sham decentralisation

5.03.33pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 31st Mar 2004

Commenting on the expected announcement today of the first wave of foundation hospitals, Paul Burstow MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary said:

"These half-baked plans for foundation hospitals are a sham decentralisation. They will divide the NHS.

"The Government's proposals do not free any hospitals of central political targets.

"Foundation hospitals do not give a voice to local people to control their NHS. They will not give doctors and nurses the freedom to get on with the job of treating patients."
