5.00.56pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 31st Mar 2004

Commenting on the Consumer Association's report into the fat and sugar content of some breakfast cereals, Paul Burstow MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow health Secretary, said:

"This report shows just how difficult it is for people to get the information needed to make healthy choices.

"Ministers are dithering in the face of the rising tide of obesity. More must be done to encourage active lifestyles and promote healthy diets.

"A clear traffic light system for front of packet labelling is needed now so people can make informed choices on what to eat."
