Delay in care home protection against abusers - Burstow

Abusers working in care homes could still slip through the net because of delays in implementing protection measures, Paul Burstow MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, said today.
The Government has announced today that people living in care homes will have greater protection from known abusers because of a new scheme that bans them from working with vulnerable adults again. But delays in implementing the system could endanger vulnerable adults.
Paul Burstow MP said:
"This safeguard is welcome but long overdue. But the fact that the CRB project has been so badly handled has meant that this system has been held up at the expense of vulnerable adults, who will still have to wait until July. In the meantime abusers still get through the net. The Department should already be recording any concerns in preparation for the POVA list."
