Save Our St Helier

Paul Burstow MP has been running the 'Save Our St Helier' Campaign, against cuts and closures at the Hospital. Since a decision by Patricia Hewitt in August 2006 not to recommend St Helier as the site for a new hi-tech hospital, fears grew for the future of the hospital. In October 2006, the Trust which runs the Hospital announced hundreds of bed closures and nearly 500 job cuts at St Helier. In November 2006, Paul was one of the leaders of a march attended by over 2,000 people to protest agains the cuts. Over the past three years Paul has continued to campaign to secure St Helier's future and defend local NHS services. As a result the campaign has now moved on to securing the funding necessary to pay for a new in and out patient facility.

Quotes of the Week

"I hate to say it, but only one party leader seems to have grasped that, if you construct a system where unskilled people are worse off by taking a job than by staying on welfare, they remain trapped in poverty - and that is Nick Clegg."

Lord Norman Tebbit

Daily Telegraph online - 13 Jan

"It's unbelievable that the Tories are still planning to cut taxes for a handful of millionaires when the majority of people across the country are feeling the squeeze. We need fair tax cuts that put money back in the pockets of ordinary people. The Tory sums simply do not stack up. It is irresponsible and highly misleading for George Osborne to continue to pretend that they do."
